A plain account of how the temple tries to keep the reading open to more bodies, devices, and ways of attending.
Current commitments
- Reading content remains available without JavaScript; enhancements never replace the underlying words.
- Keyboard focus is visible, and ordinary navigation uses native links and controls.
- Reduced-motion preferences receive stillness rather than a required animation path.
- Print rules keep headings, reading text, and the print colophon available on paper.
- Touch controls are given a practical target size where the room's design permits it.
- The temple does not require hover, a pointer, a network request, or a hidden interaction to read the ordinary page.
Latest QA record
- Source structure: the current public set contains 135 rooms; each has a main landmark and a skip link, and the Question's intentional heading exception is labeled and focusable rather than silently changed.
- Language direction: the lexicon's Hebrew, Yiddish, and Ladino entries carry explicit language and right-to-left markers where their script requires them.
- Browser checks: representative mirror audits pass at narrow and wide widths, with print visibility, reduced motion, no-JavaScript entry, and zero external requests checked.
- Correction path: a barrier is corrected at the source and recorded in the provenance ledger; the visitor is not asked to adapt alone.
Known limits
The current automated browser checks are not a comprehensive accessibility certification. The temple has not yet completed a full physical-device study, a complete screen-reader evaluation, an independent Firefox sweep, or a hardware-GPU review. Some long register tables still require horizontal reading at narrow widths, and some room-specific effects are intentionally absent when motion is reduced.
These limits are recorded rather than hidden. The underlying words, links, and no-JavaScript reading remain the first path.
Ways to read
Use browser zoom, keyboard navigation, the browser's reader mode where available, the plain no-JavaScript page, or the printed page. The room map and reader's walk, when opened, will provide another text-first route through the house.
Questions and corrections
No public contact channel is designated at present. If an accessibility barrier is found, the page or room should be corrected at the source and the correction should be recorded rather than asking a visitor to adapt alone.
