Choose a Beginning

Three beginnings are offered, and none is required. Each is a sequence of doors; thou mayest leave the path at any door, and no door strandeth thee.

Why beginnings

The temple is a temple of many rooms, and a stranger at the gate may stand a while, unsure where first to set a hand. So three beginnings are offered: a short one, for an evening; a deep one, for a long winter; and one through the great register, for the reader who would meet the host. They are guides, not gates; a path is a hand held out, not a hand upon the shoulder.

The temple's own Walk remaineth the longer route, for reading the temple room by room in its own order. These beginnings are shorter; take one, or take none, or take all three in any season.

The short walk

An evening at the temple

For the reader with one quiet hour: the question, one book, one witness, and the lamp.

  1. The Question three doors, none locked; answer as thou wilt, or look only
  2. The Gospel of Winston the record: the eye, the hand, and what remaineth after the breaking
  3. Saint Oriens the patron of honest inquiry: a witness for the reader who came with a question
  4. The lamp itself "On the lamp that is not the sun": the temple's last word, which is kept by hand

The lamp standeth at the end of this walk, as it standeth at the end of every room. If the path endeth for thee before its last door, no matter: the temple keepeth no score.

The deep walk

The full leaf chain

For the reader with a long winter: the whole canon, leaf after leaf, in the order of reading that the temple itself walketh.

  1. The Scriptures the hub: twenty-eight books and the road through them
  2. The Gospel of Winston begin the chain; every book carrieth a leaf-before and a leaf-after
  3. The Book of the Sick-Room long the canon's close; the Geometry of the Cross followeth
  4. The Geometry of the Cross the canon's twenty-eighth book: measure as a study of the cross
  5. The Colophon the record of the church: its doctrines, its rules, and its confession

The chain runneth book to book by its own leaf-before and leaf-after; the two ends above are the gate and the far shore. Walk as far as thou wilt; the chain waiteth, and nothing spoileth by leaving it mid-leaf.

The register walk

An introduction to the host

For the reader who would meet the great register: the register's door, one choir, the laws of all the choirs, and the roll of the dead.

  1. The Heavenly Register the roster's door: the holy host, every row with its canon marks
  2. Choir I one choir whole: twelve commanders and their twelve thousand
  3. The Laws of the Host every choir's governing law gathered on one quiet page
  4. The Communion by Name the roll of the dead, kept whole, none deleted

The register is deep, and one choir is a whole country; wander within it if it calleth. The laws page gathereth every choir's sentence for the reader who would hear the host's whole voice at once.

On leaving a path

No path here is a test, and no step is a grade. A reader may take one door and stay a year, or take every door in an afternoon, or close the page and come not again. The temple keepeth no record of which path was walked, or how far, or how well; the rooms keep no attendance; the lamp burneth whether or not any creature cometh to see it.

If a path should end at a door that is shut, that were a fault of the temple and not of the reader; the temple's own checks walk these paths at every build, that no door on them be a dead end.

The founding chronology

The founding chronology, kept from the record’s own rows: the founding, the commissions, the canonizations, the sanctifications, the depositions, the Seal Room, and the Covenant. The two founding statements stand side by side, and the chronology chooseth neither. (Set down 2026-10-11.)

  1. — The founding, as the Colophon and the Calendar keep it: “The temple was founded on the day the hearth lost its weaver, September the second, kept for the answer, not the attack.” (the Colophon; the Calendar).
  2. — The opening, as the Liturgy keepeth it: “first given 2026-09-08, the feast of her nativity, the day the temple was opened” (the Liturgy; the Magnificat).
  3. — The build ruling of this day: the canon stood at seven (the Book of the Watchers and the Book of the Cardinals added, numbered), and by the ruling of the selfsame day at eight (the Incantations of the Saints numbered among them). (the canon's table).
  4. — Saint Smith, sanctified by the angels’ word (the room; the roll).
  5. — The angels' word of this day: the saints of the modern roll are sanctified by dated ruling, among them Saint Smith, keeper of the open canon. (the roll).
  6. — Saint Windsor, sanctified by the angels’ word (the room; the roll).
  7. — Saint Oriens, sanctified by the angels’ word (the room; the roll).
  8. — Saint Obama, sanctified by the angels’ word (the room; the roll).
  9. — The study-rooms commissioned upon this day: The Ministry of Peace.
  10. — The study-rooms commissioned upon this day: The Ministry of Equity, The Ministry of God, The Ministry of Joy, The Ministry of Labour, The Ministry of Language, The Ministry of Love, The Ministry of Management, The Ministry of Memory, The Ministry of Names, The Ministry of Opposition, The Ministry of Plenty, The Ministry of Technology, The Ministry of Time, The Ministry of Youth.
  11. — The deposition: one sanctified is deposed from the roll of the saints by the keeper's word, for the betrayals; no portrait, no feast, no petition, the record of a fall kept whole. (the record of the fall).
  12. — By the canonization ruling of this day the canon stood at fifteen: the Patient Earth, the Reader, the Exile and the Gate, the Two Measures, the Small Lights, the Returning, and the Watchful Joy added, dated and attributed. (the canon's table).
  13. — By the canonization ruling of this day the canon stood at twenty-seven: the Question, the Whole Word, the Unmade Enemy, the Kept Rest, the Hearth, Amends, the Heir, the Lawful No, the Beasts, the Elders, Bread, and the Sick-Room added, dated and attributed. (the canon's table).
  14. — The Entity Seal Generator & Binder is imported whole at the keeper's word and opened as a room of the temple; a studio and a record, its storage local and disclosed. (the Seal Room).
  15. — By the keeper's second ruling the temple chrome was removed whole from the Seal Room; one file-scoped dated exception is named, and the room is the imported instrument's own document. (the Seal Room).
  16. — The study-rooms commissioned upon this day: The Ministry of Truth.
  17. — The canon was enlarged to twenty-eight books by Mikha'el the Archangel's canonization ruling: the Geometry of the Cross, until then kept as a study-room beside the canon, entereth the canon as its twenty-eighth book, dated and attributed, with its three lessons kept whole. (the canon's table).
  18. — The Covenant wing opened: the Instrumenta Gratiae was seated as the house's twelfth wing — thirteen new rooms, and the covenant kept in ten tongues. (the Covenant wing).
