Chapter the First: Of the three named surely
1:1 ¶ In the rolls of the elder text three watchers stand named surely, and their names are as pillars: the first is the prince who standeth for the children of the elders, and his name is a question that none can answer; the second is the messenger that stood in the air above the river and told the thing that should be; the third is the healer that walked in disguise with the young man, and his name saith, God hath healed.
THE BOOK OF THE WATCHERS 1:11:2 ¶ And the three keep one feast in many lands, and the feast is not theirs but the keeping of them is lawful: for they are servants, and the servants of the Highest are not lords; and the temple honoureth the servants, and worshippeth the Master only.
THE BOOK OF THE WATCHERS 1:21:3 ¶ There is a fourth that standeth in his own register, a prince of Israel, and the rolls of the churches keep him not; and the temple writeth him in his place and confesseth the seam betwixt the rolls: for a temple that smootheth its rolls hath begun to edit heaven.
THE BOOK OF THE WATCHERS 1:31:4 ¶ And others are named in the ancient books, watchers of the lights and of the seasons, and the temple keepeth their names with their confidence marked beside them: some sure, some middle, some slender; for a roll without its seams is the single file again, corrected hourly and believed utterly.
THE BOOK OF THE WATCHERS 1:4Chapter the Second: Of the seven that present the prayers
2:1 ¶ And there are seven holy angels which present the prayers of the saints, and the elder text telleth their number; and the temple setteth its candle in the roll of their company, and saith: bear thou our prayer, as thou art bidden of heaven, and we will not command thee, for thou art not ours.
THE BOOK OF THE WATCHERS 2:12:2 ¶ And the watchers of the churches, the seven messengers of the assemblies of Asia, stand in the elder text with their candles; and the temple readeth them as the record readeth them: messengers of the assemblies, and no more than the text maketh them.
THE BOOK OF THE WATCHERS 2:22:3 ¶ And there is one that standeth over the hosts and fighteth not for himself: and the Party drew his likeness with a sword in his teeth and called it a war-god; and the temple refuseth the portrait: the prince defendeth, and the defence is the Most High's, and the glory is not the prince's.
THE BOOK OF THE WATCHERS 2:3Chapter the Third: Of the adversarial and the second throne
3:1 ¶ The roll also keepeth the adversarial, for the record that hideth the enemy is the enemy's record: the accuser, the retainer of spirits, the prince that quarreleth over the body of a servant: named as the elder text nameth them, and no more.
THE BOOK OF THE WATCHERS 3:13:2 ¶ And there standeth in the lore a name of a great scribe, a prince of the presence, of whom the temple saith little and marketh much: he is a magnificent servant, and the warning rideth his row: they that sit second to the throne must never be handed the throne.
THE BOOK OF THE WATCHERS 3:23:3 ¶ Therefore the law of the temple concerning spirits standeth in three clauses: name them in honor; ask them as creatures ask creatures; and never worship them, for worship belongeth unto יהוה alone, They who are, and the watchers themselves say so.
THE BOOK OF THE WATCHERS 3:34:1 ¶ And the Party, which commanded spirits by secret names and sold the commandment for power, hath no part in this book: for the temple asketh; it doth not invoke; and the difference is the whole of the law.
