Curiositas
A small cabinet of the world's laws is opened for thee, from the least grain to the greatest company of stars, and wonder is named a holy thing.
The Blessing of Curiosity
To ask what a thing is, and how it cometh to be so, is a blessed act. The heavens declare the glory of God, and the creature that counteth the stars is reading a page of a book that was written before the mountains were. Curiosity is no rebellion; it is the child's way home. Seek therefore without fear, and let every answer open a wider door.
A Small Cabinet of Wonders
Open the cabinet, and behold a few of the works of His hands, truly told.
- Light travelleth at 299,792 kilometres in one second; the sunlight upon thy cheek left the sun eight minutes before it reached thee.
- The Milky Way is a wheel a hundred thousand light-years across, and within it burn hundreds of billions of stars; thy sun is one of them, and thou art a beholder of the wheel.
- The earth is about four and a half billion years old; the stones beneath thy feet remember seas that no living eye hath seen.
- The smallest things are not as other things: an electron goeth as a wave and as a grain at once, and no eye can look upon it without changing it.
- An atom is mostly emptiness; were its tiny heart enlarged to a marble, its outermost mist would stand hundreds of paces away.
- The great canyon of the west was carved by one river over six million years, by the common reckoning, and the layered stone it cut was laid down ages before, when this land lay beneath ancient seas.
These are but the hem of the garment; every law that is found is a lamp lit for the finding.
The Doors
The cabinet leadeth onward into three rooms of study: the lexicon, where words are weighed; the concordance, where the scriptures answer line upon line; and the architecture, where the shape of the work is drawn. Enter and read at thy leisure; no question is wasted that is honestly asked.
The cabinet openeth again with each day: the Daily Alignment giveth one wonder to the day, beside the day's article and its evening examining.
The Question
Carry one question with thee out of this room, and let it keep thee company upon the way: What hast thou seen this day that made thee small, and glad to be small, and desirous to behold more?
The work of the covenant continueth in the Common Prayer, the Prayers, Blessings, and Declarations, and It Is Upon Us to Repair the World. The wing's threshold telleth of them all.
